Sometimes parenting is sunny and good.

Today, after yet another early wake-up, 25 minutes of struggling actually resulted in Simon going back to sleep for an hour! So I got another hour of sleep. So Noah slept until he woke up on his own, undisturbed. So Simon woke in a better, gigglier mood than he attained all day yesterday. So I had coffee in the sunshine while my two smaller friends played joyfully and seriously in the front yard, weeding and pretending and chatting.

Sometimes parenting is idyllic, and that sometimes is when we get enough sleep. (Gorgeous weather doesn’t hurt either.) Wishing you sleep & sunshine!

Oh, sleep! I hope you have many more days like this.

This is great (news, but I particularly mean it’s evocative). Tag it for the book. It’s important to show that parenting can be idyllic, but it’s a matter of savoring idyllic moments and appreciating them for what they are, and recognizing the ground level conditions that enable them. They aren’t all the time, and they require some luck and some effort. (See, you are still working on the book!)
