supported child’s pose (is the best thing ever)

The best thing I learned last year is how to get my body into the world’s most comforting position, which turns out is the yoga pose “supported child’s pose.” I knew and liked child’s pose, of course, and I’m usually resistant to fiddling with bolsters/blankets/blocks/etc., but supported child’s pose is just awesome.

A massage therapist suggested this pose as a daily self-care practice to help with my shoulder (and full-body/mind) tension, and also with my difficulty getting to sleep. I love free, low-time-investment, simple awesome things! When I can’t get to sleep because of general mind/body buzzing, this often does the trick–I just use my pillow as the support (even though it’s not really big enough) and eventually half wake up to shift out of the pose.

The pose is like this, or like this.
